Shockwave Therapy
Here at Shreveport Chiropractic, we offer advanced conservative therapies to help alleviate musculoskeletal pain and promote healing. One of the newest treatment modalities available in our office is radial Shockwave Therapy.
Shockwave therapy, also known as radial extracorporeal shockwave therapy or rESWT, uses a handheld applicator to deliver controlled acoustic pressure waves into targeted areas of the body. Unlike surgical procedures or injections, shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that is performed in our office.
The mechanical pressure waves produced during treatment travel through the tissue in the area being treated. This stimulation is used to encourage biological responses within the tissue that may help improve circulation, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing process.
At Shreveport Chiropractic, we use the Mark V OTG radial shockwave system from Shockwave Centers of America. This pneumatic radial shockwave device allows the intensity and frequency of treatment to be adjusted based on the area being treated, the patient’s condition, and individual tolerance.
Shockwave therapy may be used in the treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly conditions involving muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. It may be considered for conditions such as plantar fasciitis and heel pain, Achilles tendon problems, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, shoulder pain, rotator cuff conditions, patellar tendon pain, certain knee and hip conditions, muscle injuries, and other persistent areas of musculoskeletal pain.
Our experienced chiropractors will carefully assess your condition to determine whether shockwave therapy is an appropriate treatment option for you. Not every condition or patient is appropriate for shockwave treatment, and our doctors will determine how it may best fit into your individual treatment plan.
During a shockwave therapy session, the treatment area is identified and a handheld applicator is placed against the skin. The device then delivers a series of controlled pressure waves to the targeted tissue. Treatment intensity can be adjusted based on the location being treated and the patient’s comfort level.
Patients may experience some sensitivity or mild discomfort when an irritated area is treated. This can vary depending on the condition, treatment area, and intensity being used. Some patients may also experience temporary soreness following treatment.
The potential benefits of shockwave therapy include reduced musculoskeletal pain, improved mobility and function, stimulation of the treated tissue, and support for the natural healing process. Because every patient responds differently, the number and frequency of treatments will depend on the individual condition and response to care.
We are dedicated to providing personalized care and treatment plans based on each patient’s individual needs. Our chiropractors may integrate shockwave therapy with other therapies available in our office, including chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic exercise, stretching, cold laser therapy, whole body vibration, and other rehabilitative treatments when appropriate.
